Wednesday 25th November 2020...
They say that 'where there is a will, there is a way right' ?! Well tomorrow is D-Day for this wee mission of mine, attempting to run from the top of New Zealand to the bottom. (OK in truth this is added by my sister a day late, because hey, family aren't perfect!) Its been an enormous amount of planning, training and expenses to get to this point. Unfortunately just YESTERDAY my support crew (AKA Mum and Dad) received a bit of bad news that means they are no longer going to be able to follow me the whole way through. Not exactly the relaxing pre-race build up you try to hope for...And the decision by the end of last night was to cancel the trip all together. With more important priorities to consider, and only 24 hours until I am due to start, it seemed the only logical option. But after an intense evening of discussions with my parents, and a humbling amount of offers for back-up support from other family and friends, today we have decided to push on ahead and just take each day, day by day.
Its going to add a few new challenges to the mix. But as the saying goes, if it was easy, it wouldn't be worth it.
So one big gigantic thanks to all the messages of encouragement I've been receiving!! Who knows how this next 60 days might unfold. But tomorrow morning I am officially pulling up to the start line of my very own race, ready just to take it one 60km-day at a time...!
